Draft 1 and Feedback for my music video
My feedback on the whole consists of what I have done well and what can be improved.
Unfortunately yet unsurprisingly, the negatives outweighed the positives.
One suggestion was to increase the number of effects and transition and to vary them. For example, most transitions were effects such as page peel and flip which were too monotonous and bland as it is something one would expect from a complete beginner which is the opposite of what I wished to achieve. Viewers recommended filters such as a recording filter which is making a specific clip look like it is being recorded such as adding a camera's battery percentage, decibel levels, quality status, 'REC' status etc. In addition, mirroring effects were recommended. These suggestions would make my video look more distinguishable. Since the feedback was primarily from males and females of similar age as my artist (16 - 18), it is fair to say that their suggestions are valid and should be taken into account. Also, a title for the video's introduction would have been better. Since most videos include the title separately from the video, it would make sense that I should go against this by adding a title as a part of the introduction.
Visually, it is well constructed. It has varying scenes set in the day and includes bright colours and lights during the evening the darkness and the artist. What gained favourable reviews was the song itself and the beat.
The song was praised for its ability to compel listeners to sing along due to its catchiness and rhythm. The beat was in sync with the alterations in the lip-syncing and like other successful music videos, it changed in rhythm from low to high.
What could have been improved was the video clips itself. People have said that the shots were too ordinary and consistent as they were mostly in the same locations so I will attempt to be more adventurous with this. Another suggestion was to vary the appearance of the main artist. She mainly wore black and white so taking this into account, I will liven up the outfits.
Reviews:
"The song itself is great. Just had to sing along. But the effects are too similar. You should experiment with them and make them more adventurous. I recommend remove removing the flipping effect and adding more filters such as the one where it looks like it is being recorded."
"I suggest changing the speed of the artist's movements when the song reaches its almost rap like part and when it states "into you".
"The artist herself is perfect for the for genre. Her complexion provides a real R&B artist vibe to it. But her clothes are too consistent. Suggestion: she should wear more lively clothes that suit her settings."
"It is upbeat and lively. However, some shots are too long. Try adding cuts (blackouts) for some parts especially when the beat of the drum is most audible in order to maximise the video's potential which, in my opinion, you are not doing."
"The sync between the music and the song is top notch. Location wise, you need more. As it is a romantic video, vary locations e.g. parks, the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop, central London during the night etc.
